A time capsule was buried in Liberty Village Sept. 1.

The capsule was placed in a hole below where the foundation for the final house is to be laid.

"This is a significant day for Liberty Village," said David Chambers, defence general manager for Mansell's, the contractor building the 606 Liberty Village homes. "It shows the dedication that has made this project what it is," he said to the small gathering of witnesses.

The contents of the capsule include photos of the work crews, archeological records, and a 48th Fighter Wing coin, among other various mementos.

"[The capsule] marks the progress and history of Liberty Village," said Neil Smith, senior project manager for Mansell's.

"The items show the teamwork between the housing and Mansell's groups," added Jason Flatt, base project manager for the 48th Civil Engineer Squadron.

The capsule will be covered with the concrete foundation, and ultimately the house itself.
"We want to keep it where people can't just go and dig it up," said Mr. Smith.

When asked how long the capsule is intended to be buried, Mr. Flatt said it depended on how much time passes before the site is redeveloped.

"We hope it's down there for a considerable time," said Mr. Flatt.
