Sir Keith Pearson, chairman of the National Health Service’s Health Education England, visited the 48th Medical Group, Aug. 25.

During his visit, Pearson observed demonstrations by both local emergency services and 48th MDG Airmen.

Liberty Wing medics took Pearson to ambulance services, the emergency room as well as the simulation center, and explained how each area contributed to the quality of care provided at the 48th MDG.

The NHS brought one of three Simbulances, an ambulance fitted to train paramedics in a variety of different simulated situations, so Liberty medics could see how U.K. paramedics are taught

“It’s good to see how they train, so we can be better and more proficient at our jobs,” said Staff Sgt. Rainier Jeffrey, 48th Emergency Services Flight aerospace medical technician.

After seeing the wide variety of capabilities of the Simbulance, Pearson and NHS medics visited the 48th MDG sim center. Liberty medics performed a live simulation, practicing life-saving skills in the dark, with sounds of gunfire and explosions as an added challenge.

The Air Force medics were able to effectively provide care to the ‘patient’. The NHS medics and Pearson were impressed.

“[The simulation] is realism isn’t it,” said Wayne Evans, a Southwest Ambulance Service simulation technician. “That’s what’s actually happening out there.”

The visit not only informed personnel on the different procedures between countries, but also helped foster growth in the relationship between U.S. and U.K. medical professionals.
