Frankfurt Incident

Franfdurt Incident graphic     On March 2, 2011, a team of 15 48th Security 
     Forces Squadron Airmen were at Frankfurt
     International Airport en route to Afghanistan to
     support Operation Enduring Freedom. 

     During the team's travel, a shooting took place
     outside Terminal 2 of Frankfurt International Airport.


Senior Airman Nicholas J. Alden , 25, of Williamston, S.C., assigned to the 48th SFS at Royal Air Force Lakenheath, England; and Airman 1st Class Zachary R. Cuddeback, 21, of Stanardsville, Va., assigned to the 86th Vehicle Readiness Squadron at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, were killed in action during the attack.  Staff Sgt. Kristoffer Schneider, 25, of Irwin, Pa., and Senior Airman Edgar Veguilla, of Wichita Falls, Texas; both from the 48th SFS, were wounded in action.

"Our hearts go out to the family and friends of those Airmen who were killed and wounded in yesterday's attack," said Gen. Mark A. Welsh III, commander of U.S. Air Forces in Europe. "We are working closely with German authorities to fully investigate this incident. Despite this terrible tragedy, we believe Germany is a safe place for our Airmen and their families to live and work."
