9/14/2012 - ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England - --
Name and Rank: Senior Airman Leah Bernett
Unit: 48th Security Forces Squadron
Duty Title: Security forces commander assistant
Time in Service: 3 years, 2 months
Times at RAFL: 2 years, 8 months
Hometown: Pittsburgh, Pa.
Hobbies: Equestrian sports, traveling and college football
Core Value Portrayed: "Excellence in All We Do"
How does the individual portray that core value?
Bernett consistently tackles squadron matters by acting quickly and efficiently on every given task. She is always coming up with inspiring ideas to help support the squadron and its operations. She catered to all commander, chief and first sergeant issues by acting as a liaison for over 400 Airmen. She was always the first to volunteer for any squadron-related function, to include defender counsel fundraisers, Airmen Committed to Excellence sponsored food drives and assisting the Security 2 investigations section. She actively participates in a local equestrian group and local 5k charity events. Furthermore, she made time to improve herself by continuing her education and completing her Community College of the Air Force degree in less than 3 years while maintaining a GPA above 3.6. She is currently pursuing her bachelor's degree in forensic science.
Why is serving in the AF important to you?
It allows me to be a small, but important piece to a huge puzzle. Serving my country and helping to make a difference is very important to me as we in the military are all part of the frontline fight.
What accomplishment during your AF career are you most proud of?
I am most proud of being hand selected to serve on a security detail for President Obama during his trip to Dublin, Ireland.
What are your personal and professional goals?
My personal goals are completing my CCAF degree this month and my bachelor's degree within the next year. My professional goal is to become an officer in the Air Force.
What is your favorite part of your job?
Being that this is my first staff position, I really enjoy seeing how not only the squadron, but the Air Force as a whole, functions. Daily I have to coordinate with many of our base leadership and host agencies. My position has given me a better perspective on how the Air Force accomplishes its mission.
