56th RQS supports Operation Odyssey Dawn

MEDITERRANEAN SEA - Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handler) 2nd Class Matthew Kolb supports Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handler) Airman John Billington against the powerful down draft of the rotors as Billington directs a U.S. Air Force HH-60G Pave Hawk from the 56th Rescue Squadron while it takes off from amphibious transport dock USS Ponce (LPD 15) during evening training operations on March 25, 2011. Elements of the 56th Rescue Squadron, which is based out of RAF Lakenheath, England, embarked aboard Ponce to provide search and rescue coverage for pilots enforcing the no-fly zone over Libya. Ponce is part of Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group, supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility.
