COLONEL JAMES A. JERNIGAN

Colonel James A. Jernigan is the Commander, 48th Maintenance Group, 48th Fighter Wing, Royal Air Force Lakenheath, England. He leads a group of over 2,250 Airmen that performs organizational level maintenance on 76 F-15C/D/E aircraft and all associated munitions and support equipment valued at over $4.1 billion to support a $270 million annual flying hour program. The group also leads centralized repair facilities to repair engines and avionics components for CENTCOM and EUCOM.

Colonel Jernigan entered the Air Force in 1997 and received his commission through the ROTC program at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. He has held a variety of maintenance, logistics, and acquisitions assignments at the wing, major command, and service headquarters levels, and has commanded at the squadron level. During previous operational assignments, he led combat sortie generation, aircraft maintenance, logistics and sustainment operations, and munitions supply chain activities across combat, C2ISR, and mission support portfolios within various units located throughout the United States, overseas locations, and within multiple combatant command AORs. Additionally, Colonel Jernigan has worked lead command acquisitions, budgeting, and programming activities for emerging weapon systems.

Colonel Jernigan has been married to his wife Cherie for 18 years; they have two children, a son Nathan, 12, and a daughter Eliana, 10.
