Getting here - Schools

There are three basic avenues for educating school-age children while you are stationed at RAF Lakenheath - Department of Defense Dependent Schools, British Schools or Home Schooling.

The Department of Defense operates five schools for dependents of members based at RAFs Lakenheath, Feltwell and Mildenhall. These schools are part of the Isles District of DoDDS Europe and are located on RAFs Lakenheath and Feltwell. There are no schools on RAF Mildenhall.

Standardized test scores for Isles District schools are available through the DoDEA Data Center.

British Schooling
If you are considering the option of sending your child to a British school, there is detailed information at the following public service website which will help answer many of your questions:

British school admissions are handled by the county in which you reside. The School Liaison Office works closely with Suffolk, Norfolk, and Cambridgeshire counties to offer families general information on the British school admissions process and ongoing support.

Home Schooling
The DoDEA policy neither encourages nor discourages home-schooling, but they do recognize that home-schooling is a sponsor's right and that it can be a legitimate alternative form of education.

DoDEA schools provide services for sponsors choosing to home-school their minor dependents. Specified auxiliary services; such as, music, sports, extracurricular and inter-scholastic activities are available. There is a local home-school group that offers support through monthly meetings and mentorship for families just getting started.

If you are interested in home-schooling your child while stationed at RAFs Lakenheath, Mildenhall or Feltwell, contact the School Liaison Officer for more information.
