A Liberty Wing Airman was chosen to participate in a diversity engagement event dedicated to making a professional impact on the lives of young people in London, England, Oct. 30.

U.S. Air Force Senior Master Sgt. LeAmada Hunt, 492nd Fighter Squadron superintendent, had the opportunity to engage approximately 100 youths on matters of leadership and diversity in the workplace.

“I was so humbled and excited when I was asked to be a representative of the U.S. Air Force by the Armed Forces Diversity Engagement Team,” Hunt said. “To be able to work as a tool to open the door for so many youths is a spectacular opportunity.”

Facilitated by AFDET and the Army Youth Outreach Team, the event brought together representatives from minority groups to serve as an inspirational visual resource to motivate underprivileged youths of minority.

Organizers, Royal Navy Chief Petty Officer Ann Miller-McCaffrey, Royal Navy element of AFDET, and Dr. Yvonne Thompson, Chair of the A Legacy for Tomorrow Foundation, brought influential business and cultural leaders together with young minds to provide a positive impact on the future generation through thought-provoking conversations.

Hunt, from a mixed heritage of African American and Asian, pulled from her experience in the U.S. Armed Forces to not only provide a reference of opportunity for the youths, but to challenge them to establish larger goals.

“People in your life may perceive you differently and tell you that you can’t do something. Turn that into motivation,” Hunt said at the event. “You can do whatever you wish, and I challenge you to shake the negativity off and show your worth.”

Attendees also had the opportunity to engage in hands-on workshops designed to cultivate leadership and communication skills.

“It’s amazing to see so many young bright minds working together,” Hunt said. “This is how we eliminate all barriers to opportunities and grow as a community and as a society.”
