Military fraud alert

Beware of scam letters!

A letter is making the rounds purporting to be from Defense Finance and Accounting Services asking military member's fiancées to register in their service, entitling them to benefits in the event of the member's death; all for only a $350 fee.

Bottom line: save your money, it's not true. DFAS did not send the letter. It is a typical scam that phishers use to try and obtain your personal information and, in this case, money. Please let your fellow Airmen and families know.

According to DFAS policy, they will not send you unsolicited email messages with attachments, nor letters asking you to send money to pay for benefits.

For more information, refer to the DFAS e-mail policy that has been developed to protect customer privacy at http://www.dfas.mil/pressroom/dfasnewsreleasearchive/Release1011002.html.
