Payne 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH -- Name and Rank: Airman 1st Class Mark Anthony Renz Unit: 48th Equipment Maintenance Squadron Duty Title: Nondestructive inspection journeyman Time in Service: 2 years Time at Lakenheath: 6 months Hometown: Slidell, La. Hobbies: Football, Baseball, Fitness, and Honor Guard. Core Value Portrayed: "Excellence in All We Do" How does the individual portray that core value? Renz is a stellar Airman who always strives to be the best at everything he does. Airman Renz is always the first to volunteer for tasks that no one else would like to do. He is a Liberty Wing Honor Guard member, Vice President of the Liberty Wing Dorm Council, and a wonderful asset to the 48th Equipment Maintenance Nondestructive Inspection Laboratory. Why is serving in the Air Force important to you? It gives me a sense of pride to be able to do something bigger than myself by serving, protecting and defending the freedoms of my fellow countrymen and women. What accomplishment during your Air Force career are you most proud of? The first Honor Guard retirement ceremony I participated in. I was given the opportunity to post the colors during a ceremony that recognized the outstanding accomplishments of an Airman who dedicated more than 20 years of his life making a great impact on airmen like me. I was honored to have witnessed and participated in such an awesome event. What are your personal and/or professional goals? My personal goal is to get at least a Master's degree in History because I would love to teach Greek Mythology once I finish my career in the Air Force. A professional goal of mine is to become a commissioned officer after obtaining my BA in History. What is your favorite part of your job? The best part of my job is knowing that every time I find a crack on a aircraft and every time I burn an engine oil sample and identify an abnormal trend, I am potentially safeguarding the lives of the pilots who put themselves in harm's way to protect fellow military members and innocent civilians.
