Military families enjoy night out Published Jan. 21, 2011 By Staff Sgt. Connor Estes 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs Office ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Family members of deployed Airmen enjoyed a night out at the Deployed Family Member Social at the base skating rink, Jan. 19. The quarterly event is one of many programs ran by the RAF Lakenheath Airmen and Family Readiness Center and was co-sponsored by the Community Action Information Board and the Integrated Delivery System. "We hope by sponsoring these events it will ease the time while their deployed loved ones are away and helps keep their spirits up," said Tech. Sgt. Jeremy Aumiller, 48th Force Support Squadron readiness NCO. More than 130 family members attended the night out, which included free roller skating and pizza. "I love it," said Tech. Sgt. Leandra Caalim, 48th FSS customer service NCO in charge, whose husband is currently deployed to Iraq. "This allowed me to go out and have dinner with my kids and they were able to play with other children. It also gives you a sense that you're not alone and that others are going through this." The interaction allows for family members to build a support system with each other while their loved one is deployed. "We also want them to know that the community is here for them," added Sergeant Aumiller. For more information about Deployed Family Member Social or other programs contact the A&FRC at 226-3847.
