During the 2010 Combined Federal Campaign-Overseas, donors can choose from many charities benefiting worthy causes.

One fund however, the Family Support and Youth Program, directly benefits the RAF Lakenheath community.

Donations to FSYP are funneled back to European bases to fund programs that provide child care, offer emergency assistance, support recreational activities and improve facilities for those who are far from home.

More than $2 million was donated to FSYP in 2008, yielding a $95,708 disbursement to European Air Force installations.

At RAF Lakenheath, FSYP funds support the Youth Center, Airman & Family Readiness Center as well as their affiliated programs.

"Last year we spent almost $27,000 on items ranging from food and supplies for the deployed family socials, to digital equipment and games at the Page Community Center, supplies for the Volunteer Recognition Program and new equipment for the Youth Center," said Dan Hawley, 48th Force Support Squadron Airman and Family Services Flight chief.

Jeffrey Halstead, A&FR chief, underscored the importance of FYSP funds.
"These types of expenses cannot commit appropriated funds, so FYSP is critical to hold these events," said Mr. Halstead, "The contributions made to FSYP are an important source of funding for programs we would otherwise not be able to support."

Those wishing to contribute can do so by marking FSYP as their designated charity for the CFC.
