Clinics from all over the 48th Medical Group came together at the Child Development Center West on Oct. 5. to educate parents and their children on different areas of health and safety.

The Health Fair consisted of six stations with a wide variety of subjects including; influenza immunization, pediatrics medical concerns, education information on asthma, dental hygiene, car seat belt safety and hand hygiene.

"Informing parents and children during this training will hopefully minimize hospital visits and eliminate undue stress and worry for parents while trying to accomplish and meet the mission at work," said Maj. George Onyenyeonwu, 48th MDG Group Practice manager.

This event was organized after CDC leadership expressed an interest in having the 48th MDG Pediatrics Clinic come teach parents and children important points on safety and health.

"After meeting with Stephanie Hern, CDC West director, about training, it has turned out to be a great opportunity for a collaboration effort between the Pediatrics clinic and CDC West," said Major Onyenyeonwu.

This was the first bi-annual health fair. Another Health Fair is planned for the spring to cover change in seasons. The pediatrics clinic will also conduct training on a monthly basis with the CDC staff.

One parent expressed their appreciation for the information.

"My daughter Lilina, has had asthma since she was two, so the information they had at this event was very helpful since I like to stay up on all things concerning this illness," said Staff Sgt. Lidiana Hernandez, 48th Maintenance Group Quality Assurance technical order distribution officer.

With new health and safety tools and information rounding up their children and rotating through the stations parents and children made their way home.
