Alexis King Unit: 48th Fighter Wing Command Post Duty Title: Alternate NCO In Charge, Training Time in Service: 6 years Time at Lakenheath: 3 years Hometown: Folsom, Calif. Hobbies: Shopping and cooking Core Value Portrayed: Excellence in All We Do How does the individual portray that core value? As the alternate training manager for the Command Post, Staff Sgt. King is responsible for ensuring controllers receive adequate training to remain proficient in their day-to-day duties. A task that can be quite demanding, Sergeant King puts in no less than 110 percent producing excellent products for controllers and other Airmen to emulate. Why is serving in the Air Force important to you? Serving in the Air Force is important to me for several reasons. When I joined it was because I wanted to be able to have a career for myself and become a part of something larger. It was important to me to be able to provide something for my children and at the same time enrich their lives by taking advantage of the many opportunities the Air Force had to offer. This still stands true today. Doing something that I can be proud of at the end of the day is an incredible feeling and that feeling, was magnified during the time I spent deployed to Afghanistan. Knowing what we are doing is one thing, but being an integral part of it and a working piece of the mission is something totally different. It is the most important reason I serve. What accomplishment during your Air Force career are you most proud of? My deployment is my greatest accomplishment so far. The knowledge and skills I walked away with after the six months I spent in Afghanistan have been an invaluable tool in my growth as an NCO and as a person. What are your personal and/or professional goals? My personal goals start with being able to effectively manage and prioritize my family, work and school. Especially now that my husband is deploying again. My professional goals are simple. Giving 100 percent always has been and always will be a number 1 priority at work. My education is a big goal, because it will help me to achieve other goals like preparing myself for the future and becoming more competitive and marketable as an NCO. What is your favorite part of your job? Knowing what we do makes a difference and that others depend on us is my favorite part of the job. No one likes to feel useless and obsolete, especially me. As Command Post controllers we are in a position allows us to spend time interacting with leadership--which is incredibly important because it is not something that most other career fields get the opportunity to experience in the way that we do, I enjoy that we are unique in that way.
