Base residents to receive UK Electoral survey Published Aug. 10, 2010 By Senior Airman David Dobrydney 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- All households in the United Kingdom, including those of American personnel, will receive the annual Register of Electors in the coming days. All residents, living both on and off base, are legally required to complete and return the form. The register forms are expected to be mailed out during the second week of August through Royal Mail. The Register of Electors is also used to determine funding in local communities. "The response to Electoral Registration can impact on the figures used by local and national government when setting out funding," said Sdn. Ldr. Jerry Neild, Royal Air Force commander for RAF Lakenheath. "It's in our community's interest to give the maximum return possible." For households where there is no British citizen resident, the homeowner need only fill out Section 3 of the form, marking the box indicating "resident not entitled to vote" and writing "US" in the box on the right-hand side. The Register of Electors is compiled in October. If members are moving out before October 15, they must leave the form uncompleted for the next occupant. If there are British citizens age 16 or older living in the property, it is their information that must be filled in. Any dormitory residents with British nationality must contact Squadron Leader Neild's office, at DSN 226-1945, after August 16 to get the form. Whether in dormitories or housing, Squadron Leader Neild foresees few problems with the Register of Electors. "For most U.S. citizens it will take a minute to complete," he said.
