Administrative manager demonstrates Air Forces' core values Published Jan. 29, 2010 ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Name and Rank: Suzanne Harper Unit: 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs Duty Title: Administrative manager Time in Service: Eight years Time at Lakenheath: Eight years Hometown: Elveden, Suffolk Hobbies: scuba diving, gardening and singing How does the individual portray that core value? Sue is an invaluable asset to the 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs office. Although she is not a trained public affairs Airmen and her duties consist primarily of administrative tasks and secretarial functions, she has consistently gone above and beyond in helping accomplish our mission. She is not only the best secretary a staff could hope for, she also takes ISOPREP photos, writes articles and supplies graphics for her stories, and manages the content of the Lakenheath public website. She is responsible for monitoring and responding to emails sent to the office's organization account, and has helped thousands of people in the eight years she's been here with everything from finding lost relatives to assisting international media. She is the first smiling face our customers see when they visit our office and primarily the first kind, professional voice a person hears when they call. Because of excellent service and experience, our return customers often seek her for assistance and praise her efforts. If she is working a project that requires her to stay a few minutes late each day, she does so without hesitation or complaint. She is eager to learn new things to help the team and she is a wealth of knowledge on local customs and nuisances - both of which are a critical part of our responsibilities of interacting with local media and the community. I could go on for pages listing Sue's outstanding accomplishments and the benefits of having her on my staff because she is truly a gem! For all these reasons, I have nominated her for this week's Liberty Spotlight and truly believe she demonstrates all of our Air Forces' core values in her service each day! Why is serving in the Air Force important to you? I joined the ministry of defence late after a career in teaching, and I'm following proudly in my dad's footsteps. He worked on RADAR in the RAF for more than 30 years. As I get older, the sacrifice of past and present generations, as they try to make the world a better place, touches me ever more deeply, and I'm honoured to work alongside men and women who carry on those traditions of service. What accomplishment during your Air Force career are you most proud of? It's good to be part of an office that tries to spread the word about the base mission and supports the base community in a wide variety of ways. We receive enquiries from the military and public from all over the world and I try to help them all the best I can, whatever their rank or status. It's good to be part of such a hard-working team. What are your personal and/or professional goals? I enjoy what I do each day and there are enough changes in the Air Force and MoD to keep me challenged. My family are my main focus these days. If they are happy and healthy, then I've got what I need. What is your favorite part of your job? I work with a great team who are fun to be around, and I love meeting all the customers who come into PA every day. There's always something to laugh about, although you have to look hard some days!
