Combat correspondent portrays 'Excellence in All We Do' Published Jan. 20, 2010 ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Name and Rank: Senior Airman Nick McNaughton Unit: 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs Duty Title: Combat correspondent Time in Service: Four years Time at Lakenheath: One year, six months Hometown: Carmel, Indiana Hobbies: Sports, reading and traveling to new places Core Value Portrayed: "Excellence in All We Do" How does the individual portray that core value? Senior Airman McNaughton always puts his best foot forward in the pieces he works on, and as a result, many of his videos have been picked up by The Pentagon Channel and Air Force Link. Most recently, he assisted RAF Mildenhall with a project to benefit the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance Day. The committee chairman was attempting to put together a presentation using video clips, but was having difficulty doing so. Airman McNaughton committed himself to this process, which initially appeared beyond his means, and he spent long hours trying to find a solution. Despite repeatedly running into technical obstacles, he refused to give up and was finally able to deliver a professional product to the customer. His resilience, professionalism, and skill led directly to the great success of that event, and people raved that the event was the best they'd ever seen. There are numerous examples I could share, just like this one, about Airman McNaughton's work ethic and dedication to his craft, which is why I selected him for this spotlight. He is a pleasure to work with and we are lucky to have him on the Liberty Wing Team! Why is serving in the Air Force important to you? Serving in the Air Force is important to me because of how much I love our country, and how much the Air Force has given me. Before I enlisted, rarely did I truly look forward to going to work. Now, I wake up every morning and go to work at a job that I love - one that challenges me daily. I feel it is only right that I try to give back to the Air Force as much as it has given to me. What accomplishment during your Air Force career are you most proud of? When I made the rank of Staff Sgt. on my first try. What are your personal and/or professional goals? My personal goals are to continually strive to be the best father, husband and person that I can be. For my professional goals, I would like to win the military videographer of the year competition, held annually to recognize the best videographer in the Department of Defense. What is your favorite part of your job? My favorite part of my job is the creative freedom of it and getting to try something new every day because it's very rare that I will have to shoot the same story twice. When I take my camera out to shoot something, it is a new challenge and a window into someone else's life. I get to peek into that window for a short time, and through the medium of video, I try to tell their story in a way that it has not been told before.
