Under a bright blue sky, Airmen from the 48th Fighter Wing gathered to pay tribute to Tech. Sgt. Phillip Myers during the dedication ceremony of Myers Way Nov. 23 here.

Sergeant Myers, a member of the 48th Civil Engineer Squadron Explosive Ordnance Disposal flight, died April 4 as a result of an improvised explosive attack while deployed to Afghanistan.

"Today we are doing more than renaming a street, today we are remembering," said Lt. Col. John Baker, 48th CES commander. "We are posting for all to see, a physical reminder that Sergeant Myers was and continues to be a hero who served his country."

Colonel Baker spoke of a dedicated and brave service member whose battlefield leadership and technical expertise led him to being selected as a team leader conducting operations in one of the most challenging areas of Afghanistan.

Those close to Sergeant Myers spoke of a caring man who guided young Airmen beginning their Air Force careers.

"He was an Airman's Airman," said Master Sgt. Hendrik Van De Pol, 48th CES EOD flight chief. "He brought a smile to the face of everyone around him."

As the ceremony drew to a close, Sergeant Van De Pol said, "To honor [Sergeant Myers] actions; as you pass by this street, please remember his sacrifice, the sacrifices' of those who loved him and the legacy he leaves behind."
