Lakenheath home page gets a face lift Published July 23, 2009 By Senior Airman Kristopher Levasseur 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- If you have been here for any length of time, you should be at least mildly familiar with the Jet 48 Online or its predecessor, the Jet 48 magazine. From the time I arrived, almost three years ago until now, my professional life has revolved around the Jet 48. Ever since my first day on RAF Lakenheath, I have been involved in the planning and production of the Jet 48. It has been my best friend at times and my worst enemy at others, but no matter what, it has always been here for the Lakenheath community to provide timely and accurate information about the base, mission and people. Recently, the Jet 48 Online has transitioned to a new look, which will increase the functionality and appeal of our product. Along with the redesign of the Web site, several new functions have been added. With the redesign, news will no longer be sorted by date published. In an effort to increase the accessibility of important news and information, top stories will now be viewed under the '48th Fighter Wing Top Stories' section. Other information sections include Features, which are stories that cover the lighter side of RAF Lakenheath; Perspectives, which are stories much like this one that are written by the subject matter expert allowing them to put a personal touch on it; and USAFE Headlines and Air Force Headlines. RAF Lakenheath is a very busy base. Our people are always on the move, working to complete the mission and we do not always have time to sit back and read the stories. Each story will now feature a new function for the "Airman on the go." A 'Story at a glance' function has been added to allow readers to get the gist of a story, without actually having to read the entire story. The 'Story at a glance' is a bullet-point format summation of the information contained within each article. Not interested in reading our articles? Well, the Jet 48 Online offers more than just information and news stories. Our Web site boasts a wide variety of photos and videos of the mission, aircraft and Airmen doing what they do best. These are just a few of the features offered on the site. Several new features are being created and designed for our Web site even as I'm writing this article. In the future, our readers can expect to see Lakenheath video and radio channels and a few more plans that will come as a surprise. Our goal is to provide top quality news and information to the base population. All these changes are made for you, our customers.
