Automated Housing Referral Network increases housing support Published July 16, 2009 By Senior Airman Kristopher Levasseur 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Permanent change of station moves can be a very stressful time for a military member, particularly with setting up a new home, but a new housing support program will help ease the burden. The Automated Housing Referral Network allows military members to directly interface with off-base housing at their gaining duty station. According to AHRN.com, the program is sponsored by the Department of Defense and is designed to improve the process of securing available housing for relocating military members and their families. "The program allows people looking for off-base housing a better avenue by placing them directly in contact with housing agents and property managers," said Ian Taylor, 48th Civil Engineer Squadron housing representative. "The program uses a public Web site, which can be accessed by anyone prior to their arrival on station. The previous system required members to come to the housing office to search through our database to find approved off-base housing." The program operates like many popular housing and rental Web sites available in the civilian sector, he added. "Houses available through AHRN here will still undergo the same quality inspections and maintain the same standards as before," said Mr. Taylor. "Because the program will handle much of the referral process, it will allow us to focus on housing inspections and increasing the amount of houses available." The program is available for all continental U.S. bases and will be available at RAFs Lakenheath and Mildenhall Aug. 31. To register and use AHRN.com: 1. Visit www.ahrn.com and choose the appropriate registration button 2. Fill in all of your personal information on the form including your gaining base. 3. Log on and begin searching housing available in that area. Houses can be viewed by searching all listings, by the searching members basic allowance for housing or for sale by military owner. Advanced searching options are available within these search categories, such as searching for pet acceptable housing.
