48th OSS NCO exemplifies Air Force core values Published May 29, 2009 ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Tech Sgt. Henry M. Ward III, 48th Operations Support Squadron commander's executive officer and aircrew flight equipment technician, was nominated for the Liberty Spotlight by his chain of command because he practices the Air Force core values of "Service Before Self", "Integrity First" and "Excellence in All We Do." Commander: Lt. Col. Mark Ciero Time in Service: 14 years, 5 months Time at Lakenheath: 11 months Hometown: Birmingham, Ala. Hobbies: Sports, Traveling, Listening to Music Core Value Portrayed: Sergeant Ward epitomizes "Integrity, Service, and Excellence" in every task, every day. As the Commander's trusted agent, he is the only NCO in the 48th Fighter Wing to act as a squadron commander's executive officer -- a huge responsibility to 173 Airmen and 71 families, the 48th Operations Group's largest squadron. He arrives early in the morning to check squadron taskings and answer commander-level emails then serves five hours in his primary Air Force specialty code to return at the end of day to again clear taskings and emails. He greatly aides in vetting and editing out enlisted performance reports and enlisted awards helping win a record number of USAFE, 48th FW, and 48th OG awards. In his primary AFSC, he supervises five Airmen and completed 184 parachute repacks with 100 percent quality pass rate enabling the 56th Rescue Squadron's first CSAR deployment. Finally, his technical expertise contributed to winning USAFE's Large Aircrew Flight Equipment Program of the Year for 2008. In short, he is an exemplary administrator, manager, and technician.
