48th MUNS builds host nation relations Published May 11, 2009 By Senior Airman Kristopher Levasseur 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Members from the 93rd Expeditionary Armament Squadron from RAF Marham visited the 48th Munitions Squadron May 8 as part of an exchange program designed to increase relations and interoperability. The program, a brainchild of Maj. Brian Tolson, 48th MUNS commander and Sqd. Ldr. Duncan Arnold, 93rd EAS commander, was created because of the increased cooperation between United States and United Kingdom forces in deployed locations around the world. "Today was intended to be more of a topical visit between our two squadrons to get a broad level look at what each unit does, which will then spur a more hands-on role," said Major Tolson. "The thing is, we all know how to build bombs, but the management and interchanging inspections are just a few of the things we can help each other with." Major Tolson added that with the success of this visit, the two squadrons would continue to visit each other's organizations six times a year. "After seeing the 48th MUNS, I am more surprised at our similarities than our differences," said Sqd. Ldr. Arnold. "There are a few key differences, such as the size of the 48th MUNS and the broader mission that it performs, but it's our similarities that make us ideal partners." Sqd. Ldr. Arnold remarked that this was day one of the exchange and they have already shared several ideas that will assist both units in streamlining their processes. "It's great to see our U.S. equivalent unit," he added. "We have had a really positive reception today and we are looking forward to further cooperation between our two units."
