48th Fighter Wing holds base clean-up day Published March 18, 2009 By Senior Airman Kristopher Levasseur 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- More than 4,000 Liberty warriors will be performing tasks from cleaning their work stations to clearing out gutters March 25, as part of the bases annual clean-up day. The purpose of the base clean-up day is to perform "spring cleaning" and show a sense of pride in ones base. "Lakenheath has always been a good-looking base," said Senior Master Sgt. Joel Sanchez, 48th Civil Engineer Squadron base clean-up coordinator. "We are just improving on it." According to Sergeant Sanchez, the base clean-up day will have minimal impact on the daily operations of the base. "We have tried to make the clean-up day as simple as simple as possible and (the 48th CES) will be able to provide a lot of support," said Sergeant Sanchez. "We will be available to help move some of the larger items and will have dumpsters at predetermined locations." The 48th CES will also be able to: - Pick up large non-hazardous waste items at established pick up points. - Street sweeper large pavement areas - Clean gutters over 10 feet - Pick up trash, debris inside and outside of perimeter fence line - Perform grounds maintenance as required Liberty Warriors are also urged to seek alternative means of disposing unwanted items. "The goal is to recycle as much as we can," said Sergeant Sanchez. "The recycling center will be open and ready to receive anything you need to bring to them."
