48th OSS Airman exemplifies Service and Excellence

  • Published
Staff Sgt. Todd Shugart, 48th Operations Support Squadron NCOIC of current operations, was nominated for the Liberty spotlight by his chain of command because he practices the Air Force core values of "Service Before Self" and "Excellence in All We Do."

Commander: Lt. Col. Mark Ciero

Time in Service: 14 years

Time at Lakenheath: 9 months

Home Town: Bircham - Dover, Ohio

Hobbies: Reading, Music (all things metal/hardcore/grindcore/etc.), Softball

Core Value Portrayed: Daily Sergeant Todd SHU "shoe" Shugart portrays the two core values of Service before Self and Excellence. Everyday his devotion to duty begins early and lasts well beyond 10 hours. He arrives before flying begins to coordinate changes to the daily schedule and remains into evening waiting until the next day's flying schedule is finalized in the wing-wide system. He coordinates with nine Liberty Wing agencies and with Ramstein AFB Air Operations Center to produce a USAFE-wide ATO. His pursuit of excellence prevents errors in the wing's schedule including take-off times, airspace, ranges, tankers, datalink frequencies, etc. He also liaises with the 3rd Air Force and UK military and civilian scheduling units. In short, he is a one-deep NCO working two positions and his output is well-above his rank; the OSS and the OG rely upon his service and excellence day in and day out.
