Post Office holiday opening hours Published Dec. 8, 2008 By Col. Jay Silveria 48th Fighter Wing commander ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- COMPLAINT Not only has the Wednesday morning parcel pickup window hours been changed, but there is no extended mailing or parcel pickup hours. What happened to customer service and serving the community with convenient hours that has always been a normal Yule tide experience? RESPONSE As with every holiday season, we significantly increased our post office opening hours from 15 Dec through 3 Jan (closed on federal holidays) to keep up with the major increase in seasonal mail. In particular, we have added 40% more hours at the parcel pickup window. This window is serving customers from 0900-1800, seven days a week during the holiday season (as posted on the entrances to the RAF Lakenheath Post Office). The window dedicated for financial transactions, stamps, and USPS mailings has extended their hours by 30% over the holiday, but our incredibly hard- working staff are serving customers from 0900-1700, Monday through Saturday. In addition, we have hired additional temporary employees to augment the current workforce during this high-demand season so you will find more personnel providing assistance at both the parcel pick-up and finance windows which should keep the lines moving. Of course, another Yule tide experience is the personally enriching tradition of volunteerism. Throughout the year, but during especially during this season, post office volunteers are incredibly important to our community's operation. We appreciate your concern and welcome you to pitch in and lend a hand. Happy Holidays and mail early
