48th OSS Airman exemplifies Excellence in All We Do Published Dec. 4, 2008 ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Senior Airman Morris Ross, 48th Operations Support Squadron aircrew flight equipment journeyman, was nominated for the Liberty spotlight by his chain of command because he practices the Air Force core value of "Excellence in All We Do." Commander: Lt. Col. Mark Ciero Time in Service: 4 years Time at Lakenheath: 10 months Hometown: Monroe, La. Hobbies: Higher education, football, culinary arts, performing arts Core Value Portrayed: Airman Ross epitomizes "Integrity", "Service Before Self" and "Excellence in All We Do!" He is always on time to any event, appointment and duty. Airman Ross is the first to volunteer for overtime or working through the weekend or performing non-career related duties. His attention to detail, every day and night ensures that the personnel who use the parachutes we maintain in the AFE main shop will protect their fall. This is fact as evidenced by the recent discovery of a major discrepancy on one of the 48th Fighter Wing's F-15 Strike Eagle aircraft ejection seat recovery parachutes during an acceptance inspection, after maintenance at a depot level facility. His discovery prevented death or serious injury if the aircrew member needed to egress. He received praise from his supervisor to his group commander. He has also brought the spotlight onto his section, which makes those who work with him proud of the job they're doing there. Why is serving in the Air Force important to you? Ever since I was young I knew I would join the military, even before I learned I had relatives serving. I was raised in a very negative environment and I know a lot of people had the same dealings growing up, but I guess only a few chose to accept it. Since there are so many reasons, my main three would be: 1. I get to serve my country. 2. How proud my family is of me and the respect I get from my peers. 3. The family unity of the Air Force is unlike anything I've ever experienced. What are your personal and career goals? One of my short term goals was to make staff sergeant my 1st time testing, and I achieved that. My second is to finish my bachelor's degree and commission through OTS.
