PT gear confusion Published Nov. 14, 2008 By Col. Lawrence S. Reed 48th Fighter Wing vice commander ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- COMPLAINT: I am confused about the standards of the PT gear. The AFI does not specify a few details, like lunch. I have been going to workout at my lunchtime wearing a t-shirt and sweatpants. I have been told that I am supposed to wear the official PT gear when I go workout at my lunchtime break. I went to the track to practice for my fitness test and noticed that there were two different individuals, from two different squadrons doing fitness test without their official PT gear. I was under the understanding that during squadron/group fitness times and fitness tests we are supposed to wear our PT gear. I don't think the PTLs are enforcing the standards. If an individual does not arrive to their fitness test with the offical proper PT gear on, shouldn't they be re-scheduled and/or punished for missing a mandatory military appointment. RESPONSE: Thank you for the opportunity to clarify the guidelines of wearing the Air Force PT Uniform on RAF Lakenheath. As stated in AFI 36-2903, organized PT and the wear of the PT uniform during those times is decided at the discretion of Commanders. Here on Lakenheath, the local HAWC does have a policy that individuals are to wear the Air Force PTU if they are using their rooms for a test; however, AFI 10-248 does not mandate the wear of the AF PTU during testing. Please check with your commander for any specific instructions for your squadron or group.
