The 48th Force Support Squadron will be hosting the 5th Annual Project CHEER program, running from November to March, to boost morale of dorm residents and single Airmen at RAF Lakenheath.

During Project CHEER, several events will be available including a Golf Turkey Shoot Nov. 15, Thanksgiving Dinner and ITT Thanksgiving Day Out Nov. 27.

"Project CHEER is a program that was specifically designed to get our Airmen living in the dorms that are away from home and family out during the holiday season when it is easy to get the blues," said Jacqui Luberto, 48th FSS special functions coordinator.

Mrs. Luberto said, this year, Project CHEER will also be hosting a RockBand® tournament with a $300 1st place prize and a $150 second place prize. Each participating group will be comprised of four members, a guitarist, base guitarist, drummer and vocalist.

Other events that will be part of Project CHEER are Holiday Cosmic Bowling, USAFE Texas Hold'em Tournaments, Late Night at the Library running monthly throughout the season, as well as pool and ping pong tournaments.

"(We can never) do enough for our Airmen," said Mrs. Luberto. "I couldn't imagine spending the holidays away from friends and family. (Project CHEER) is a well received program available to them though. We don't have a hard time getting people to participate."

According to the Project CHEER website, in FY06 more than 2150 base level Project CHEER programs were attended by nearly 120,000 USAFE Airmen. Project CHEER stands for creating hope, energy, enthusiasm and recreation for our young Airmen.
