48th OSS Airman displays Excellence in All We Do

  • Published
Tech. Sgt. Dale Drake, 48th Operations Support Squadron air traffic control watch supervisor, was nominated for the Liberty spotlight by his chain of command because he portrays the Air Force core value of "Excellence in All We Do."

Commander: Lt. Col. Mark Ciero

Time in Service: 10 years, 2 months

Time at Lakenheath: 2 years, 4 months

Hometown: Vine Grove, Ky.

Hobbies: Hiking, motocross, reading

Core Value Portrayed: Sergeant Drake epitomizes "Excellence in all we do" in every task, every day. This is not just my opinion but a fact as evidenced by the recognition he received from the ATSEP team for the outstanding work and effort he has put into OSS/OSA's new Airfield Automation System (AFAS). Lakenheath's AFAS was identified by USAFE HQ inspectors as the "USAFE benchmark for AFAS systems" and Sergeant Drake garnered singular recognition as ATSEP "Outstanding Performer" during the phenomenal success of Lakenheath's 2008 Air Traffic System Evaluation Program. His performance earned him a personal invitation to accompany the team back to USAFE Headquarters to establish command-wide standards for AFAS.

Why is serving in the Air Force important to you?
The Air Force allows me to be a part of something larger than myself and is the best mechanism for invoking positive change.

What are your personal and career goals?
My closest personal goal is to complete my Bachelor's degree in order to meet my career goal which is to either become a successful SNCO or possibly attend Officer Training School.
