Chief Master Sgt. Jeffrey Williams, 48th Fighter Wing command chief, has been selected to become the U. S. Air Force Warfare Center command chief at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev.

Before leaving the Liberty Wing, Chief Williams had a few things to say to Liberty Warriors.

"My fondest memory of Lakenheath is my entire tour," he said. "I say that because I was lucky enough to come here and be the 48th Maintenance Group chief, deployed to Afghanistan and then came back to be the command chief. When you're coming up in the ranks, you never expect things to be given to you. You hope for good things but I've been very lucky. I'm just a maintenance guy who was given a great opportunity and I'm very thankful for that."

His humbleness was apparent when he rattled off his accomplishments during his tenure at RAF Lakenheath.

"I have to give a lot of credit to General Hesterman and the wing leadership," Chief Williams said. "I think we came into a situation where morale was low and I'd like to think that I had a hand in bringing the morale back up. I'd have to say that was my greatest accomplishment while I was here."

The chief leaned back in his chair and sighed as he pondered his final message to the Airmen of the 48th Fighter Wing.

"I just want to thank everybody. I had a great working relationship with the group and squadron commanders. If I didn't have that relationship, it would have been difficult to get things done and improve upon what we have, to help the enlisted corps. It's the Airmen who got me to where I am," he said. "Just be yourself, and good things will happen."
