People or mission first? With respect to the Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health Compliance Assessment Management Program, the answer is people first to ensure the mission can be achieved.

ESOHCAMPs

- Assess environmental program management concentrating on high risk and high burden areas

- Assess occupational health and safety program management by concentrating on areas where adverse health or safety outcomes may occur

- Assess the implementation and effectiveness of ESOH programs which focus on identifying and reducing risks of illness or injury within the workforce

- Ensure compliance with all Final Governing Standards, DoD regulations & Air Force Instructions with regards to the ESOH programs

This year's ESOHCAMP assessment will be Oct. 27 to 30 for RAF Lakenheath and RAF Feltwell. The assessment is designed to help commanders assess the status of their ESOH programs. It provides a "snapshot in time" and is not designed for 100 percent coverage. Specifically, the assessment is not an inspection.

During the week of the assessment, team members will make site visits to more than 100 duty sections around the installations. To facilitate the assessment team and the 48 units, most site visits during the ESOHCAMP are pre-scheduled. However, no-notice site visits are still possible.

Once the assessment is complete, the 48th Fighter Wing will receive a final report of ESOHCAMP findings. Environmental, Bioenvironmental and Wing Safety will then work with the units to develop Management Action Plans to identify the root cause of each finding and outline the actions, timeline and funding necessary to correct each finding.

In addition to discrepancies, the ESOHCAMP assessment team looks for instances where a section or individual has gone above and beyond Air Force, USAFE and/or local requirements. Those sections or individuals will receive a "Positive Finding" and their creative solutions will be highlighted during the wing out-brief.

To ensure 48th FW success on the upcoming assessment, the 2008 ESOHCAMP checklists are available for review at https://48fw.lakenheath.af.mil/C3/ESOHCAMP/default.aspx.
