Plea for clearer signage Published Oct. 2, 2008 By Col. Lawrence S. Reed 48th Fighter Wing vice commander ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- COMPLAINT: Behind the Liberty Club, building #648, is the junction of Windsor Circle and Bristol Street. This junction is very dangerous as there is no 'stop' sign. There is a solid white line, which denotes to stop, but few seem to adhere to it and occasionally it is ignored all together. Secondly, Windsor Circle is a one way street. Often the residents of Windsor Circle and Bristol Street ignore the signs and either reverse down the road or drive the wrong way down the street. For the safety of all that travel this road, could someone please make the road signs clearer and erect a stop sign? RESPONSE: Great call. Safety is certainly our number one priority and calls received concerning safety are taken very seriously by our Civil Engineers. Engineers surveyed Windsor and Bristol and will install both a stop sign and a painted "Stop sign" marked on the road to increase awareness at the junction. We believe adequate signage is in place on Windsor Circle to denote a one way system, but we'll reinforce current signage with additional directional road markings to clarify traffic flow. Road signage should be installed no later than 30 September. During the interim period Security Forces will continue to enforce all applicable driving laws. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
