Entrance and exit to the BX Published Oct. 2, 2008 By Col. Lawrence S. Reed 48th Fighter Wing vice commander ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- COMPLAINT: The window in front of my desk overlooks the BX entrance/exit and the roundabout. At least once a week I notice someone, probably new to the base, either trying to enter the BX parking lot via the exit or attempting a right turn out of that exit against traffic. There is no signage in place to advise otherwise and the painted lines and "give way" markings on the pavement surface indicates two way traffic. I suggest placing "no entrance" signs at that exit with a "no right turn" sign on the flip side. Having a car accident your first week here is probably not the way to start an assignment. RESPONSE: Thank you for the opportunity to address your concerns regarding traffic flow at the exit to the BX parking lot. After review by our Civil Engineers, existing road markings will be removed at the exit point and replaced with a single lane to include new "Give Way" markings. "No Entry" signs will be placed on the reverse side of the exit lane to raise awareness and clearly identify exit only. A second "no right turn" sign will be installed to ensure traffic flows correctly. Road signage should be in place no later than 30 September.
