CFC kick-off campaign begins Published Sept. 24, 2008 By Senior Airman Stacy Sanchez 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- RAF Lakenheath is hosting its annual Combined Federal Campaign Overseas kick-off Oct. 3 at 11:30 a.m. in the Liberty Club. The CFC, which runs from the beginning of October through December, was established to support and promote philanthropy through a voluntary program that is employee-focused, cost-efficient and effective in providing all Federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all. "Support from military and federal employees provides funding for vital programs, such as cancer research," said Capt. Jana Weiner, CFC community area project officer. "By making a pledge to a CFC charity, you have the opportunity to support your personal and professional values while improving the quality of life for others. You never know when your family might benefit from the assistance of a CFC-sponsored charity." Donations to the CFC will go to more than 2,000 national and international charitable organizations as well as the Family Support and Youth Program. For Lakenheath, the CFC has set a goal of $305,000. "The (FYSP) is a program unique to the Combined Federal Campaign Overseas," Captain Weiner said. "Because overhead costs are not deducted from these funds, 100 percent of the donations to the family support program are collected and returned to overseas installations where the contributors live or work to improve quality of life." There are several ways to donate to the campaign. Federal employees can choose to pay by allotments from their paychecks, make a onetime cash or check donation or go online and make a credit card donation. "If you make a donation to a particular charity or all of them, you are giving back to someone," said Senior Airman Laura Gazda, CFC wing staff agency unit coordinator. "For example, if you choose to donate to the Military, Veterans and Patriotic Services Organizations of America, which received the most donations last year, you are donating to our future." Unit representatives will be assigned to contact 100 percent of personnel within their units to let them know verbally what the campaign is about, Airman Gazda said. Flyers, posters and pamphlets will be available for people to get information. There is also a website, www.cfcoverseas.org, available that will explain the campaign and where one can print a donation form to turn into their representative. "I have been a CFC representative for a few years now, and I enjoy it very much," Airman Gazda said. "I feel good knowing that I am helping out for the greater good.
