Top ten vehicle info. Published Sept. 18, 2008 By Madeliene L. Cowlan 48th Force Support Squadron ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- The past few months have seen dramatic changes to the registration of vehicles and the allocation of tax-free fuel to entitled members with the mass re-issue of the Drivers Fuel Permit (DFP) well underway and the introduction of the new Star Card to replace the gas coupons scheme. As with most of these things we constantly hear "the guy in my shop said..." and usually this ends up costing you money, so ten facts for getting your vehicle registered on RAF Lakenheath: NEED FOR BASE REGISTRATION ALL Lakenheath Team members US or Local Nationals MUST still register your vehicles within 72 hours at Pass & Registration. ALL UK, 3rd National Citizens and retirees MUST have an updated vehicle pass which should be shown upon request when coming through the gates at RAF Lakenheath. ALL US citizens must have a DFP or vehicle pass for the vehicle they are driving. DRIVERS FUEL PERMITS To gain a DFP (entitled personnel only) you should bring to Pass & Registration, for every driving member of your household, V5C vehicle registration document, pink cards, blue cards, USAFE drivers' permits (374's). There are limits to the number of vehicles you may have on a DFP - 2 for single personnel and 3 for married couples (extenuating circumstances can be taken into account). VEHICLE PASSES To gain a Vehicle Pass you should bring your old base pass, your V5C Registration documents and your ID Card to either Pass & Registration or the HAC Office. NEWLY ACQUIRED VEHICLES For DFP or Vehicle Pass - If you purchase a new vehicle we will still need to see ALL documents - V5C in your name or new keepers supplement, insurance, Mot (if applicable), road tax disc, drivers license/permit and ID card before we will issue you a base registration of any kind. ROAD TAX Road Tax can now be gained from the fifth of the month the disc runs out. It is the member's responsibility to check the date on the disc in their window - DO NOT rely on the reminder letters reaching you. As of Sept. 1, for military and civilian component members, we will no longer be issuing a ticket to drive AFTER the end of the month. If you do not renew your road tax - you park the car.
