48th FW Airman practices Service Before Self Published Sept. 11, 2008 ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Staff Sgt. Chad Duprey, 48th Fighter Wing ground safety, was nominated for the Liberty spotlight by his chain of command because he practices the Air Force core value of "Service Before Self." Commander: Lt. Col. John Bunnell Time in Service: 14 years Time at Lakenheath: 4 months Hometown: Hampton, N.H. Hobbies: Scuba diving, motorcycles, hiking, camping, home improvement Core Value Portrayed: Sergeant Duprey epitomizes "Service-before-Self." When he arrived at RAF Lakenheath, he hit the ground running and has not stopped. In particular, he manages the Wing Commander's AcciDon't program for newly assigned Airmen that are 26 years of age and younger. AcciDon't is a hands-on driver's training program that has reduced traffic mishaps among our Airmen by 40%. Sergeant Duprey truly cares about all of our Airmen. What accomplishment during your Air Force career are you most proud of? There are two: 1. Developing into a good mentor and supervisor. I take pride in helping others and enjoy mentoring people. I believe that mentorship is nothing more than caring for your people. That takes getting to know them and taking an active role in their career. 2. Retraining into the safety career field. I have learned more about myself and the Air Force in the two years that I have been in safety. I retrained into Safety because I care about our military members and their families. I feel satisfied everyday that I have worked to keep someone safe on and off duty. What are your personal and career goals? My personal and career goals are basically the same. My goal is to improve as a person and Air Force leader. That entails completing my bachelors' degree in safety within the next two years. As Gen. Curtis E. Lemay stated, "I'm firmly convinced that leaders are not born; they're educated, trained, and made, as in every other profession."
