FMO Policies Published Aug. 14, 2008 By Brig. Gen. John W. Hesterman 48th Fighter Wing commander ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- -- COMPLAINT I PCS'd here in Nov 06 and I received a stove for my house. In Feb 07, my landlord remodeled our kitchen and added a stove. I called FMO to ask them to pick up my stove. I was told that I'm allowed only one delivery and one pick up my whole tour. So because I no longer require the stove I have to choose between: 1) pay to have someone pick up the stove to return to FMO and save my pick up for my PCS or 2) have them pick my stove up now and pay to get my FMO items picked up and returned to FMO. I chose not to do either because I feel like I shouldn't have to pay to return the stove that was delivered because I no longer need it by no fault of my own. Meanwhile, someone could require a stove and I have one that just sits unused. I've spoke to several other people and had the same issues. A suggestion a co worker had was to have pick up on a space available basis. FMO has set pick-up and delivery schedules to go to certain areas on certain days. For example, If the delivery truck is delivering/picking up in Lakenheath on Tuesday and there is open space on the truck, then it would pick up items that there were room on the truck for. It just doesn't make sense for people to have to pay for FMO items that were issued to them just because they no longer have a use for them. I understand with everything now has a time and cost affixed to it, but in my opinion this falls in the realm of taking care of people. RESPONSE Per AFI 32-6004, FMO may only provide transportation for extenuating circumstances or government-directed moves. Unfortunately it does not allow for "space available" transportation, due to the fact we have to pay a contractor £55 for pickup and delivery regardless of the "space available" on the delivery truck. Our FMO strives to provide the highest level of service to all customers, but are limited by AFI and contractual constraints. Thanks for your understanding in this regard. __________________ The Action Line is your direct link to the commander for complaints, suggestions or comments.
