Liberty Warriors kicked off fitness month today by participating in the 10-hour squadron run.
To complete the run, units had to have a squadron representative running from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., though squadrons could have as many participants running throughout the day as they wished.

"I thought it was a good event and good fun," said Staff Sgt. Randall Thorp, 48th Logistics Readiness Squadron Fuels Flight training supervisor. "It's a good opportunity to build camaraderie and get out there and run with everyone."

However, running for 10 hours isn't every Airman's version of fun, so the 48th Services Squadron has put together a number of activities to help people get fit during May.

May 3 features a Get in the Seat! Cycle Class. There are actually six classes back-to-back starting at 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The classes are as follows:

9:30 to 10 a.m. Easy rider
10 to 10:30 a.m. Get in Motion
10:30 to 11 a.m. Turn up the Cadence
11 to 11:30 a.m. The Great Climb
11:30 to noon Jump 'n' Road Race
Noon to 12:30 p.m. Tranquil Mind, Body and Soul
All riders must have water and should arrive at least 10 minutes before class start.

The Hoop it up! competition is May 10 at 10 a.m.. This competition includes a free throw contest, shoot out contest, 3-on-3 basketball tournament and a dunk contest. Cost to participate is $2.50. All participants must be 16 years old, or older.

The services squadron is hosting a dodgeball tournament May 16th at 11 a.m. and the annual 5K fun run May 17 at 10 a.m.

For Airmen who want to celebrate fitness month with a little music, Latin Style Aerobics is free May 24 at 10 a.m. There is a Fitness Golf Tournament May 29 at 8 a.m.

Airmen can also participate in the month long program Clue, to discover who killed the fitness instructor. As participants workout, they earn the opportunity to guess. Those who are successful in solving the "crime" earn prizes.

The fitness center isn't the only base agency gearing up for fitness month however, the Health and Wellness Center is also supporting several events.

They will teach a Nutrition class May 12 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. There is a running shoe clinic and running clinic May 16 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

During the entire month, Airmen and their families can collect points by working out and attending events. Points are collected on cards available at the fitness center. At the end of the month, prizes will be awarded for those with points.
