Lakenheath community bulletins April 10 - 17 Published April 9, 2008 ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- British Post Office At the British Post Office, Airmen can pay everything from gas and water bills to telephone and mail orders. The post office also has the ability to cash and deposit checks to select banks, as well as issue, redeem money orders and exchange currencies. In addition to handling money for Airmen, the British Post Office also sells a variety of insurance, from travel, to car and home insurance. Airmen can also get a road tax license issued, as well as a selection of Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency application forms. For more information, visit the British Post Office. Parent Open School Community Forum A Parent Open School Community Forum will be held April 29 at the Liberty Intermediate School Library from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The goal is to help families meet the challenges of transition by providing support information. Survivor Benefit Plan A military retiree is guaranteed a monthly income for life. However, military retired pay stops on the date the retiree dies. The Survivor Benefit Plan was created to protect widowed spouses and dependent children from complete loss of income. Services will be limited to emergency care only. Financial issue Servicemembers may have noticed a base pay fluctuation between January and March. Passport price raise The U.S. Department of State has increased their prices for tourist passports. This event is free to all DoD ID card holders. The car show will take place in the 48th Medical Group parking lot. Prizes will be given for best in show, best paint, best custom interior and ugliest car. Basic Crochet, two week course A basic crochet course will be held May 5 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and will run for two weeks. Basic Digital Imaging, three week course A basic digital imaging course will be held May 7 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and will run for three weeks. New Playaways at the Lakenheath Library Playaways are a new format of self-contained audio books. Playaways are in a VHS-like container but are about the size of an iPod. May is Fitness Month at RAF Lakenheath A Hoop-it-Up Basketball Tournament will be held May 10 at 10 a.m at the Lakenheath Fitness Center. The entrance fee is $2.50 per person. Dodgeball Tournament A dodgeball tournament will be held May 16 at 11 a.m. at the Lakenheath Fitness Center. The tournament format will be determined by the number of teams participating. The cost is $6.00 per team. Fitness Golf Tournament A golf tournament will be held May 29 at 8 a.m. at the Breckland Pines Golf Course. Survivor Group Challenge There will be a fitness survivor challenge May 31 at 11:30 a.m. at the Lakenheath Fitness Center. Teams will compete in fitness challenges which test strength, speed and stamina.
