Arriving at a new base can be an uneasy time in a servicemember's life. The first step on most Liberty Warriors checklist is finding a place to live.

The 48th Civil Engineer Squadron housing and furniture management offices have a few different services available to help Airmen transition into a new home.

Since most Airmen are unfamiliar with the local area, the housing office offers global positioning systems to help them find their way to listed properties. The housing office currently has three GPS devices available.

According to Kathy Ferrell, 48th CES housing assistance deputy, servicemembers and their families can come in to the housing office and sign out a GPS and return it the following day.

"We also have a courtesy driver available by appointment," said Ms. Ferrell. "Our courtesy driver will take servicemembers and their families out to view on and off-base housing."

In addition, the housing office also provides housing list computer terminals to view available off-base housing listings and check positions on waiting lists. Terminals are located at the housing office and the Airman and Family Readiness Center.

"We are here to serve the servicemembers," said Mrs. Ferrell. "We are willing to try to accommodate and help them as much as possible."

The FMO is another resource available to Liberty Warriors.

"We provide servicemembers with loaner furniture until their furniture arrives or for a maximum of 90 days," said Steward Kinsman, 48th CES FMO operations manager. "We also provide permanent appliances such as washing machines, electric ranges and microwaves for servicemembers in housing units on and off-base."

Whether they use the GPS, courtesy driver or FMO loaner furniture, servicemembers can expect to find the help they need to find the right place for them.
