Chaplain (Maj. Gen.) Charles Baldwin, Air Force Chief of Chaplains, will speak during the annual Thanksgiving Service at the Ely Cathedral Nov 21 at 7 p.m.

The evening begins with a concert performed by Mr. Jonathan Lilley, Ely Cathedral's professional organist at 6:40 p.m., and ends with a pie fellowship after the service. Anyone wanting to donate pies can bring them to the base chapel Nov. 21 from 7:30 a.m. to noon.

According to the base chapel staff, the Ely Thanksgiving service dates back to World War II when the local English people welcomed hundreds of American Airmen to join them in giving thanks to God. The Ely Cathedral Thanksgiving service was conducted every year of the war, and has continued since.

"Our annual Thanksgiving Eve service at the magnificent Ely Cathedral is a unique opportunity to thank God for His many blessings -- especially our long standing British-American partnership in defending freedom," said Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Bruce Arnold, 48th Fighter Wing chaplain.

Free transportation departs both RAF Lakenheath's and RAF Mildenhall's chapels at 6 p.m. Call 226-3711 to reserve a seat from RAF Lakenheath, and 238-2822 to reserve a seat from RAF Mildenhall.

Visitors are advised to dress warmly, as the cathedral can be cold. Service dress is encouraged for military members.
