"We r proud of u."

Leading up to Thanksgiving, America Supports You, a nationwide Department of Defense program, will launch an initiative to allow American citizens to text a message of "thanks" to military members serving around the world. These messages will be displayed on the America Supports You Web site, the Pentagon Channel and in Stars and Stripes.

"Citizens continue to look for ways to communicate their encouragement directly to servicemembers," said Tech. Sgt. Jill LaVoie, 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs NCO in charge. "In the old days, citizens were able to send letters of support to the troops. Now, we are catching up with the times and making it easier for Americans to show their support through text messaging. Also, just as a servicemember would respond with a letter, we are asking servicemembers to submit responses to those who send text messages."

Any servicemember can submit a short response that includes their first name, service branch and country location. These messages can be submitted to ann.quinlan@osd.mil or allison.barber@osd.mil. The best responses will be used to respond to text messages of support.

Anyone can read the messages of support on the America Supports You Web site, http://www.americasupportsyou.mil/americasupportsyou
