Threat reduction team visits Lakenheath Published Sept. 20, 2007 By Tech. Sgt. J. LaVoie 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- The Defense Threat Reduction Agency will send a team of specialists September 23 to 29 to conduct a Joint Staff Integrated Vulnerability Assessment of RAF Lakenheath and RAF Feltwell. "This is the Defense Department's team to assess our ability to detect, deter, and/or respond to any terrorist incident on RAF Lakenheath or RAF Feltwell," said Master Sgt Anthony Arens, 48th Fighter Wing Antiterrorism officer. Eight people from the Defense Threat Reduction Agency will assess the bases and determine how to mitigate vulnerabilities through a change in protocols or facility improvements. The anti-terrorism office wants the Liberty Wing to know this is not a security forces assessment, but an installation assessment. "Anti terrorism is not just for security forces on patrol or at the gates," said Tech. Sgt. Jason Culley, 48th Fighter Wing Antiterrorism officer. "Everyone, to include family members, is important to the program, to prevent or detect a terrorist on RAF Lakenheath on in the tri-base region." According to the 48th Fighter Wing commander, although the JSIVA team is coming for an assessment this month, it important to be vigilant not just during this time, but always. "The JSIVA team is here for one week, but the threat is always present and the best way to mitigate that threat is through awareness and vigilance," said Brig. Gen. John Hesterman, 48th Fighter Wing commander. "To do that, everyone must report suspicious activities to the proper authorities. "Things people should report include anything they think is out of the norm," said Tech. Sgt. Culley. "If a person sees something, they should tell somebody, security forces, or call the Eagle Eyes hotline...not just during the JSIVA, but always." For more information on the JSIVA, call Sgt. Arens or Sgt Culley at 226-1403.
