RAF Lakenheath community bulletins, August 24 -31 Published Aug. 24, 2007 ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- MOD Labor Day leave policy Supervisors may use a liberal leave policy especially if work requirements are reduced significantly on the holiday. Employees are required to work, or they may request leave. Activities should schedule workloads to ensure effective utilization of MOD employees on those days. Employees will be excused from duty, with pay, only when circumstances prevent management from assigning duties. (For Industrial MOD Employees: compensatory days earned according to the Industrial working time administration arrangement is taken on U.S. holidays. Employees who do not have compensatory time to their credit will be required to work or may request leave). FMO closed for holiday The Furnishings Management Office, on RAF Feltwell, will be closed Aug 27 for the British bank holiday. For more information call 226-7154 or 7334. Customer Service at the education center The customer service department at RAF Lakenheath's Education center will be closed due to the U.K. Bank Holiday Aug 27. The closure does not impact testing or tuition assistance approvals. In addition, school offices will be open as normal. Abandoned vehicles Security Forces investigations office will remove abandoned vehicles free of charge and without retribution. U.K. specification vehicles may bring the V-5, pink card and keys to Security Forces Investigations at building 1165. U.S. spec. vehicles require a form 5, V-5, pink card and keys. For more information, call 226-1622. Munitions Storage area limited support The Munitions Storage Area will be offering limited support from Sep 1-31 to conduct semi-annual inventory. Issue requests must be submitted to Munitions Accountability by Aug 20 and picked up Aug 29 in order to meet scheduling requirements. All munitions turn-ins completed with Munitions Inspection no later than Sep 29. Emergency issue requests must be justified and approved in writing by the requesting unit's group commander or equivalent. Normal operations will resume on Oct 1. Airman and Family Readiness Center Aug courses Pre-separation briefing A pre-separation briefing is Aug. 7 and 21 from1-3p.m., and Aug. 14 and 28 from 9-11 a.m. This class fulfills the mandatory requirement for all personnel retiring or separating from the military. Financial foundations Financial foundations training is Aug 10, 17, 24 and 31 from 8-9 a.m. The money management class includes goal setting, budgeting, credit and debt management and basic investing. Newcomer's bus tour A newcomer's bus tour is Aug 10, 17, 24 and 31 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The tour includes visiting the historical town of Bury St. Edmunds, the cathedral, eating in a pub, shopping and free time to explore. The tour on Aug. 10 will be to Duxford Imperial War Museum. Sponsorship training Sponsorship training is Aug. 13 from 1-3 p.m. All first time active duty sponsors and those who have not had training in over a year are required to attend sponsorship training. The training reviews the basic requirements of sponsorship and provides useful resources to better assist the newcomer. Bundles for Babies A bundles for babies course is Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. to noon. This is an educational program for expectant parents, which focuses on budgeting for a baby, bonding with your baby, WIC Overseas Office and childcare options. Employment connections An employment connections course is Aug. 20 from 9 a.m. to noon. This class will instruct on the local labor market and what jobs are available on and off base. Personnel specialists will be available to answer questions concerning hiring procedures. Four-day transition assistance program workshop A 4-day TAP workshop is 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 21-24. Participants will learn how to write effective resumes and cover letters, interviewing techniques and successful job search methods. Pet scoop A pet scoop class is Aug. 15 from 3-5 p.m. The class provides pet specialists to answer questions regarding transportation requirements for pets and to assist military families in properly planning for the shipment of pets. Resume writing and interview techniques A resume writing and interview techniques class is 9-11 a.m. Aug. 29.
