Construction to cause temporary traffic diversions, long term benefits Published July 19, 2007 By Tech. Sgt. Jill LaVoie 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- The 48th Civil Engineer Squadron has begun construction to build a new gate on Lord's Walk due the impending lease expiration where Gate 2 currently stands. "After Sept 11th we moved the gate to increase security," said Lt Col Murphy," 48th Civil Engineer Squadron commander. "However part of the agreement was that we would re-open Radcliff to civilian traffic." The construction, which will move the gate back on to Lord's Walk Road, will allow this to happen. People entering and exiting the base will notice some diversions while the $1.4 million project is being completed. The first diversion has caused child development traffic to be rerouted. In the future, Lord's Walk, between Exeter Crescent and Norwich will be closed and traffic will be diverted. Outbound traffic will still use Gate 2. Inbound traffic will be sent through the Exeter Crescent Gate 3. Gate 3 has also been opened to pedestrian traffic.
