Spring construction blooms on RAF Lakenheath Published April 25, 2007 By Jill Fuson 48 Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Spring is in the air and construction is blooming to improve and enhance life on RAF Lakenheath. Some of the projects scheduled are: Running track repair Project to replace the existing eighteen year old degraded synthetic surfacing for a safer track in support of Air Force Fitness Testing and everyday physical fitness is currently underway and is expected to be completed the end of May. Radcliffe Road and Lord's Walk To reduce congestion during the busy periods at this junction, a "no right turn" policy exiting Radcliffe Road onto Lord's Walk will come into effect on May 1 during the times of 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. The goal is to allow vehicles to exit the base without causing traffic congestion. To re-enter the base, vehicles will need to travel around the Eriswell Road roundabout and pass through Gate 2 security as normal. Liberty Village Housing Project, Phases one - five Project is a multi-phase construction project to construct 606 new housing units in Liberty Village. - Phase one is scheduled for completion in Nov. - Phase two and Phase three is scheduled for completion February 2010. - Phase four and Phase five will commence between 2008 and 2010. Personnel residing in these units can expect to experience road closures, re-routing and detours throughout the length the construction. Road closures will be announced to residents and signs posted by the contractor. Parents are advised to ensure their children do not gain access to the construction sites. Norwich and Richmond Circle Project will provide 53 new car parking spaces and a new small roundabout at the Norwich and Richmond Road junction. This project began in March and is expected to be completed by May. Norwich and Exeter Junction Project is expected to add 20 new car parking spaces and a new large roundabout. Construction will begin in June. Traffic traveling along Norwich Road will be maintained with roads leading into the roundabout closed with detour signs posted. Completion date is projected for Sep. Hospital project A combined project to renovate several clinics to maintain the highest level of medical services to the military and civilian community is scheduled for completion in July 2008. Minor inconveniences will be experienced in the hospital clinics during the renovation work. Lords Walk and Gate 2 The current entry control point is currently located outside of the base perimeter upon a leased parcel of land. The lease will end Aug requiring a new entry control point to be constructed along Lords Walk inside the base perimeter. This project is scheduled to commence May rerouting left turn onto Exeter Crescent onto the base. All outbound traffic will continue to use Lords Walk. Road detours will be marked with signs and monitored by Security Forces. Completion date is scheduled for November. Radcliffe Road fencing Project will provide a secure perimeter for the base when Radcliffe Road is open for public access. Completion date is scheduled for fall.
