Core Values Portrayed: Service Before Self and Excellence In All We Do

How does the individual portray these core values?
Senior Airman Barker was nominated for a Liberty Spotlight by Master Sgt. Mark Greene, 48th CS post master. According to Greene, as a vital part of the Official Mail Center at Royal Air Force Lakenheath Post Office, Barker has been providing world-class service to all the units on base by routinely putting in extra effort by coming in early or staying late to ensure all mail is properly distributed and accounted for in a timely manner. Additionally, she organized more than 60 mail distribution runs, providing same-day service delivery for 30 units during the holiday season, supporting the morale of more than 15,000 patrons.

Why did you join the Air Force?
I honestly don't know why I decided to join the Air Force.  I had a decent job, studied English Literature, and had my own apartment.  Why would I want to live in barracks and chant jodies?!  I just remember one day, I wasn't happy with where I was going in my life and decided to take a risk by jumping head first into a radically different lifestyle.

How does your job support the mission of the 48th Fighter Wing?
I receive, process and dispatch mail for more than 56 units on RAF Lakenheath. The Official Mail Center directly supports the morale of the base and our aircraft getting off the ground by supplying a necessary bolt for a jet, sending out critical flight details, or dispatching pumpkin spice latte syrup for our Airmen during the Christmas season!

What drives you as an Airman?
I am driven by a simple quote, "The uniform does not characterize you.  You characterize the uniform." I will always exhibit the ambition necessary to succeed; however, I will also govern my actions by what I believe is the most ethical and moral decision.

What skills do you possess that set you apart from others?
My work ethic is the greatest skill I possess.  There are always ways to enhance a system, and I make it my goal to find the improvements through innovation and hard work.

What has been your favorite place to travel in England/Europe, or where would you like to travel to?
My favorite destination has been Edinburgh, Scotland.
