Protective aircraft shelters on RAF Lakenheath will undergo a light conversion to increase base efficiency.

Changing the lights will not only reduce the base energy requirement, but will also benefit the mission with a better color rendition and a brighter working environment. The light conversion also comes with a ten year warranty and requires no maintenance.

"These new lights are great in helping us see the finer details of what we're doing," said Airman 1st Class Austin Green, 493rd crew chief. "The visibility that we have now will help us even more in our work and supporting the mission."

The light conversion started on March 30th and will continue into October along with more updates and renovations to the flightline area.

According to the 48th Civil Engineering Squadron project manager, there are 20 x 400 watt fittings in each PAS, totaling 8,000 watts per PAS.  The new fittings are 250 watts x 20, totaling 5,000 watts, which achieve a 3,000 watt reduction per PAS.

Updates will save RAF Lakenheath more than $5,500 per year in each PAS, totaling more than $200,000 annually and reducing electricity consumption in the Wing.
