RUfit: Deployed spouses Published July 30, 2015 By Senior Airman Erin O'Shea 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Early Friday morning, 44 deployed spouses and their 53 children gathered in front of the Liberty Wing chapel for a daytrip to Warwick Castle. The trip was a joint effort between the Comprehensive Airmen Fitness program and the chapel, who coordinated the logistics of the event. Transportation, lunch, snacks and entrance fees were included in the expense-free trip for the families. "I think it's very important for deployed members to know that their family members who are left behind are being taken care of," said Edward Cole, 48th FW community support coordinator. "We want to encourage people to know they're not alone." One spouse who attended the trip with her 3-year-old son, Kincaid, was Star Copeland, wife of Tech. Sgt. Jason Copeland, 48th Logistics Readiness Squadron quality assurance evaluator. "If you have a lot of kids, it's hard to afford certain trips," Copeland said. "To have it already packaged into one deal is definitely important and helpful." A large bird display, archery demonstration and sightseeing around the castle were just some of the events planned for the families. "It gets us out of the monotony of doing everyday things and allows us to meet other spouses," said Michelle Harlan, spouse of Tech. Sgt. Jason Harlan, 48th Munitions Squadron conventional maintenance production supervisor. According to Cole, the outing was a great opportunity for deployed families to get out and interact with each other. "I want to encourage people to embrace resiliency, to take advantage of trips when they're offered," Cole said. "There are people there who have probably been through what you're going through and can offer you advice."
