Liberty Wing experiences F-15 simulators Published June 26, 2015 By Senior Airman Dawn M. Weber 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Members of the Lakenheath community participated in an open-house help by Boeing and the Liberty Wing's three fighter squadrons to provide them with the opportunity to experience F-15 flight simulators. More than 250 people attended the event. "The purpose of the open-house was to expose wing agencies to the operations group's mission, using the F-15E and C model simulators," said Capt. Ryne Collins, 492nd Fighter Squadron pilot. "The turnout was better than expected from members of RAFs Lakenheath and Feltwell, as well as families. The event was an overall success." The 48th Fighter Wing houses two Boeing F-15 Mission Training Centers that consist of eight cockpit trainers, allowing for full combat tactical training to support both F-15E and C model training requirements. The MTC's provide realistic flight training for two F-15E Strike Eagle pilots and Weapons Systems Officer as well as four F-15C Eagle pilots. Boeing's MTC also provides the capability to simulate the full spectrum of F-15 training for peace and wartime missions. David Freaney, Boeing F-15 MTCs site manager, said these types of events are usually made available for the Operations Group commander and 30 active duty personnel, but this particular event gave more than 250 visitors the fighter pilot experience. "I asked numerous participants how their simulator flights were," Freaney said. "All of them answered in almost the exact same way: 'It was awesome!'"
